Salva ran away from his village and joined a big group. He found some people from his village but then they were taken to a rebel camp. They are separated into men and women kids elders. Salva goes to sleep,when he wakes up no one is there. -

Salva joined another group of DInka and walked with them.They were joined by a couple more tribes when a kid Salva's age found honey. -

Salva and everyone ate everything in the bee hive but they all got stung badly.Salva made a new friend,Marial.He is the same age as Salva. -

Salva made it to an island in the middle of the Nile River where there were many fisherman who gave his group food and water but once they went to sleep for the night there were hundreds of mosquitoes. -

Salva was wondering why the group had left him.He left the barn and saw an old woman who was from his tribe on her porch.He stayed in her barn for 4 days and then she told him that she was leaving because the pond was drying up.She said Salva shouldn't go with her. -

Salva finds that his mother is not at the refugee camp and accepts that his whole family is dead. Salva's life has definitely changed because he is more independent. -
Six years later
The refugee camp is closing but not just his,all of them. His life has changed because he has adjusted to the camp and is around 17 years old. -

Some challenges that Salva faced were strong water currents,alligators,soldiers,and being the leader of the group of boys.The soldiers chased all of the refugees into the river currents and the alligators,1000 people died then.He was the leader of the boys and they traveled through Ethiopia to Sudan and finally ended up in Kenya. -

Salva has had major character development. When we first started the the book he was very dependent on his family and others. Once he joins the walking group he became a bit more independent. But now he is the leader of his group,but he is facing a bigger challenge,he was going to America. -

In this chapter Salva shows perseverance by getting to America. He took three airplanes to get there. Also once he got there he needed to put on many layers of clothes to get through the cold. -

Salva has finally found his dad and went to visit him in South Sudan.While he was there his father told him that everyone thought he was dead but his father never lost hope.His dad had worms in his stomach from years drinking bad water.He also found that his mother and only one of his brothers survived the war.Ariik and Kuol had died but ring survived.Salva has started a project about something in South Sudan also. -

Akeer was sick from the water but went to a doctor and was cured.But the doctor told Nya,her mom,and Akeer that they need to boil the water before they drink it.But there wouldn't be enough water. -

The drilling went on for three days until some of the workers started shouting.A group formed around the hole.A giant stream of water shot up and drenched two of the workers who were operating the drill.But when everyone was cheering Nya noticed the water wasn't clean, it was full of dirt and mud. -

The well is finally finished and it is cool clear clean water instead of the warm brown muddy water from the pond.Nya is drinking her water when Dep tells her that the work manager was Dinka.She went and thanked him and we found out that he was Salva.Also that bringing water to villages in South Sudan was Salva's Project. -

Nya's "red giraffe" was a large drill. -

They started drilling the hole in Nya's village but the bag they used to store the water they needed kept springing leaks.The crew was getting discouraged at the bag but the boss kept them working. -

Some of the little boys in the village wanted to drink the water but couldn't. Even tho they found water they have to still put in pipes and pumps. Nya reluctantly went to the pond to get water. -

Men in the village are clearing more land to build something. -

Nya's father and more men were building a school for the children in the village.
