American School For the Deaf

First School of Special Education
The American Asylum for the Education and instruction of Deaf and Dumb persons referring to the individuals who were unable to speak as back then they called it that way was the first permanent school for deaf. The school provided instructions in math, reading, writing, geography, history, Bible and involving sign language to. -
Council for Exceptional Children
The CEC was organized by a group of educators that attended the summer session at Teachers College, Columbia University which had 12 faculty members. Which was founded by Elizabeth E. Farrell. Now, The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the success of children and youth with disabilities. -
Brown v. Board of Education
The landmark case that provided precedent for future special education cases and established that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. That paved the way for the future rights of children with disabilities to access equal education.

Rehabilitation Act 1973
The first major federal disability rights law in the United States. It prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in programs conducted by federal agencies, programs receiving federal financial assistance, and in the employment practices of federal contractors. This act aims to improve the public workforce, help people with barriers have an employment and help employers hire and retail skilled workers. -
Education for All Handicapped Children Act
Improve educational services in local public schools for children with mental, physical, emotional, and learning handicaps require that free appropriate public education be available for all handicapped children. Schools are required to evaluate a child's special needs, develop an individualized education program for the child, involve the child's parents, and educate the handicapped child along. -
Individuals Disability Education Act
Originally known as the Education of Handicapped Children Act, passed in 1975.
