Samuel

Period: 1129 BCE to 1017 BCE

Samuel was a priest over Israel.

Samuel is given to Eli

1126 BCE

Hannah could not have children so she prayed at the temple and asked God to have mercy on her. She promised God that if he gave her a son she would dedicate him to God. When Hannah finally conceived a son she named him Samuel. Samuel was then given to Eli the priest and Samuel learned and lived in the temple all his life.

Samuel tells Eli what God told him

1105 BCE

When God called to Samuel he listened to what he had to say. God told Samuel that he was going to judge Eli's family because they were very evil. God told Samuel that Eli's family would all be punished for their sins against God. He also told Samuel that there was no way that Eli would not be punished even by sacrifice.

Samuel hears God's voice for the first time

1105 BCE

One night when Samuel was trying to sleep, he kept hearing someone call for him. He thought that it was Eli so he continually went to Eli and asked him what he wanted. Finally Eli realized that God was trying to talk to Samuel. Eli told Samuel to listen to the voice of God and answer God's call.

Saul

Period: 1081 BCE to 1010 BCE

Saul was a good king at first. But when he started sinning against God his life went downhill from there. Saul was a man who never was really sorry for his sin. He always blamed others for disobeying God.

Jonathan

Period: 1062 BCE to 1010 BCE

Jonathan was Saul's son and David's best friend. He was a very loyal man to David. They were best friends.

Saul anointed king

1049 BCE

Saul was anointed king of Israel by Samuel. The bible tells us that Saul was the most handsome and tall man in all of Israel. He was a Benjaminite so he thought that he was not worthy enough to be the king. The tribe of Benjamin was the smallest tribe.

Saul's unlawful Sacrifice

1040 BCE

Saul's first sin was when he sacrificed on an altar during a battle. The only person who was supposed to burn the offering was the high priest, which was Samuel.

David

Period: 1040 BCE to 970 BCE

David was a good king who was after God's own heart. Although he made mistakes in his lifetime, he always repented and didn't blame others for his sin. He was also very loyal to Saul even though Saul tired to kill him over and over again.

David Anointed King

1030 BCE

God tells Samuel to go to the house of Jesse and anoint one of his sons as king of Israel. Samuel listens to God and goes to Jesses house. He asked God about every son at the house but God said that non of them were to be king. Then he asked if there were any other sons. Jesse told him that there was one other one who was a shepherd. David was the shepherd and he was the youngest of his family. God told Samuel that David was the chosen king. So Samuel anointed his head.

David kills Goliath

1025 BCE

David went to bring some bread and cheese to his brothers who were in battle. While he went to take them their food he saw that there was a giant tormenting all of Israel. He had faith in God so he told king Saul that he would kill the giant for Israel. So Saul let him battle Goliath the giant. David knocked down Goliath with a stone and a sling. Then he cut his head off with Goliath's own sword.

Saul hunts for David

1024 BCE

Over and over again Saul hunts for David throughout David's life. Saul hated David because he knew that David was supposed to be king. Saul didn't want to accept that God had rejected him as king. Instead he wanted to kill David so that he could stay king.

David marries Abigail

1015 BCE

Here was a woman named Abigail and she was married to a man named Nabal. Nabal was a very rude and tough man. When David wanted food from Nabal, he said no to him. Nabal's wife Abigail heard that Nabal was rude to David so she brought David and his mighty men a whole bunch of food. When Nabal heard about it he died of a heart attack. Then David took Abigail as his wife.

Jonathan defeats the garrison of the Philistines

1000 BCE

Jonathan was a brave man. After he defeated the Philistine, all of the Philistines heard about it. This is was started the war between the Philistines and Israel. This same war is the one that Saul gave the unlawful sacrifice.

David and Bathsheba

992 BCE

One day David saw a woman bathing on her roof. He immediately fell in love with her and asked for her to be summoned. But Bathsheba was a married woman and she was married to one of David's mighty men. But David sinned by sleeping with while her husband was gone.

Solomon

Period: 988 BCE to 931 BCE

Solomon was David's son who was the king of Israel after him.

David and Absalom

982 BCE

Absalom was David's son. He was a very crafty man. He stood outside of the gates of Jerusalem as the people came to see David for counsel. He then told everyone that if he was the king that he would rule in their favor. He turned all the peoples hearts toward him and tried to overtake David's thrown.

Jonathan saves David from Saul

980 BCE

Jonathan heard that Saul was trying to kill David, so he warned David about his father. He told David to escape while he talked to Saul. Jonathan told Saul to stop trying to kill David. He told him that David was innocent and didn't deserve to be killed. So Saul swore to Jonathan that he wouldn't pursue David again.

Jeroboam

Period: 973 BCE to 910 BCE

Jeroboam was the servant of Solomon. God gave Jeroboam 10 of the tribes of Israel to rule because Solomon sinned against God. Solomon even tried to kill Jeroboam because he didn't want him to be king over Israel. Jeroboam made two golden calves and put one in the north and one in the south and told the people to worship them. He didn't want them to travel to Jerusalem because that's where Solomon's temple was that's why he made the calves. Jeroboam was a bad king. Reigned for 22 years

Rehoboam

Period: 972 BCE to 913 BCE

Rehoboam was Solomon son. He became the king of Israel when his father died. Rehoboam sinned so he became the king of Judah instead of Israel. He reigned 17 years. The priests didn't want to worship Jeroboam's idols so they left Israel and went to Judah.

Adonijah makes himself king

970 BCE

Adonijah becomes king without getting anointed. He tries to rule to people, but David here's about it and makes Solomon king.

Abishag goes to take care of David

969 BCE

Abishag is taken to the palace to take care of David before he dies. Although David was allowed to, David never slept with her.

Solomon becomes king

960 BCE

David heard that his other son was trying to be king, so he makes Solomon the king before he even dies. Solomon is told to kill Adonijah but he decides to show him mercy.

Solomon asks God for wisdom

960 BCE

God tells Solomon that he will give him whatever he asks for as a reward to Solomon. So Solomon asked God for wisdom so he could be a good leader. God was pleased with Solomon's request so he gave Solomon wisdom and he also blessed Solomon.

Solomon uses his wisdom

960 BCE

Two prostitutes came to Solomon and were arguing about whose child was dead and whose child was alive. Then Solomon told someone to cut the child in half and give a half to each of the women. But the woman whose child was alive told Solomon that he could give the child to the other woman because she didn't want him to die. Then Solomon knew who the real mother was.

King Hiram visits Solomon

960 BCE

King Hiram was king of Tyre. He gave Solomon supplies and man to help build the temple.

Solomon creates the temple

959 BCE

David helps his son by gathering materials for the temple that he wants Solomon to build. The temple that he built was filled with gold and silver and was a very extravagant. Different royal people came to Solomon and gave him materials to build the temple.

The Queen of Sheba

955 BCE

The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon's wisdom and wealth so she went to go see him for herself. She asked him many questions and she learned that Solomon was very wise and rich. She she rewarded him with lots of gifts.

Solomon turned to other gods

940 BCE

Solomon got married to many different women from many different places. He had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Since he had so many wives, he worshiped his wives gods because they persuaded him. Solomon turns against God by worshiping idols of many different kinds.

Rehoboam's revolt

930 BCE

Rehoboam listens to the advice of his friends instead of the advice of the elders. This mistake caused all of the people to go against him because he would not make the taxes for the people less but instead he gave them higher taxes. Then Rehoboam fled from the people so he wouldn't be stoned like the tax collector.

Rehoboam's battle

925 BCE

In the fifth year of Rehoboam's reign he abandoned the law of the Lord. So God tells the prophet Shemaiah to tell Rehoboam and the princes that Egypt was going to destroy Jerusalem. So the prince and the people repented for disobeying the law. God had mercy on them because the people repented. So Shishak took treasures of the Lord and that's it.

Jeroboam's fall

925 BCE

A man of God came to Jeroboam. While he was worshipping the idol he told Jeroboam that the altar would be destroyed by a son named Josiah. Jeroboam tired to seize him, but God shriveled his hand up so he could not seize him.

Jeroboam's son gets sick

922 BCE

Jeroboam's son gets sick and he sends his wife in disguise to Ahijah who was the prophet who prophesied the Jeroboam would be king. The prophet called to Jeroboam's wife and Ahijah tells her that this is their consequence for not obeying God. He said that he would bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam, and that the son would die. As soon as Jeroboam's wife got home, the son died.

Abijah

Period: 913 BCE to 911 BCE

Abijah was a king of Judah. He reigned for 3 years and was evil in the sight of the Lord. In his reign he battled against Jeroboam.

Asa

Period: 911 BCE to 870 BCE

Asa was good in the sight of the Lord. He reigned for 41 years in Judah. He tore down the idols of his father and stayed true to the Lord for all of his life. He dethrones his own grandmother because she was a worshipper of idols. (Maacah) Asa dies because he sinned against God, so he got a disease in his feet.

Nadab

Period: 909 BCE to 907 BCE

Nadab reigned for two years in Israel. He was evil in the sight of the Lord because he worshipped idols and followed after hi fathers before him.

Baasha

Period: 907 BCE to 885 BCE

Baasha became king by murdering the king before him. (Nadab) He also killed the entire house of Jeroboam. He was a wicked king of Israel.

Elijah

Period: 904 BCE to 850 BCE

Elijah was one of the most important prophets in all of scripture. He was Elisha's mentor and he taught him. He was carried away in a fiery chariot in front of Elisha. He did many miracles in the name of the Lord.

Elah

Period: 885 BCE to 883 BCE

Elah was the fourth king of Israel. He was a bad king. And he reigned for two years. He was murdered while in a state of intoxication by Zimri.

Omri

Period: 883 BCE to 871 BCE

Omri was a bad king of Israel. It was told in the bible that he was a worse king than all the other kings before him. He reigned for 12 years.

Zimri

Period: 883 BCE to 883 BCE

Zimri reigned for only seven days. He killed Elah so he could become king. He was a bad king of Israel. He burned the palace down on top of himself because he didn't want anyone to be king if he couldn't.

Ahab

Period: 871 BCE to 849 BCE

Ahab was a very bad king. He was the worst in all of Israel. He reigned 22 years. His wife's name was Jezebel. He died in battle by an arrow after Elijah told him that he was going to die in battle.

Jehoshaphat

Period: 870 BCE to 845 BCE

Jehoshaphat was a good king of Judah. He reigned for 25 years. He divided up the land and gave each place a judge to help them make decisions. He also made priests and Levities go throughout all of the land and teach people about the law and how to follow it. He also destroyed idols.

Elijah and the Widow

869 BCE

Elijah was sent to a widow's house during a famine. While he lived there the flour and oil never ran out and there was always enough to make food.

Elijah and the prophets of Baal

867 BCE

Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal see whose God was the real God. He told them to build an altar to Baal and he would build an altar to God. And whichever one lit on fire would be the true God's altar.

Naboth's vineyard

851 BCE

Ahab wanted a place for his garden. One day he saw that there was a vineyard right by his palace. So he wanted the vineyard so he could make himself a big garden. But when he asked Naboth if he could buy the vineyard, he said no because it was his family's inheritance. Ahab was devastated by this news so he went home and pouted. Then Jezebel his wife got the vineyard for him by putting Naboth to death.

Jehoshaphat's Battle with The Moabites, Ammonites, and Mount Seir

850 BCE

Jehoshaphat decided to pray and make all of Judah fast before the battle. He asked God for wisdom. Jahazial told him that God was pleased with his actions so he said he doesn't have to battle. But he went to battle anyway with singers in the front lines praising God. They won the battle.

Ahaziah

Period: 849 BCE to 847 BCE

Ahaziah was Ahab's son. He was a bad king and he reigned for two years. He was losing in battle so he made a sacrifice to gods. So Elijah told him he would die. He was the king of Israel.

Jehoram

Period: 847 BCE to 835 BCE

Jehoram was a bad king of Israel. He reigned for 12 years. He fought against the Moabites. He needed help to win the battle so he called Jehoshaphat and asked him to help. Jehoshaphat told him to ask Elisha for wisdom so he did. Elisha helped him win the battle and get water but only because he was with Jehoshaphat. (valley of blood)

Jehoram

Period: 845 BCE to 837 BCE

Jehoram was a king of Judah after his father Jehoshaphat. He reigned for 8 years. His wife was the daughter of Ahab. He was a bad king. He goes to war against Edom and loses. He dies because God cursed him with an incurable disease in his intestines.

Naaman's Leprosy

839 BCE

Naaman was the commander of the army of Syria. He had leprosy. His servant girl told him that there is a man who could heal his leprosy. So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha's house. And Elisha told him to go wash in Jordan seven times and he would be healed. But Naaman was angry with this answer. He was going to just go home but then his servants convinced him that he should at least try. So he does and gets healed

Ahaziah

Period: 837 BCE to 836 BCE

Ahaziah was a bad kind of Judah. He reigned for only 1 year. He was killed by Jehu.

The Axe Head Recovered

836 BCE

When the sons of the prophets were chopping down trees by the Jordan, one of the boys axe heads falls into the river. It was a barrowed axe head so they needed to get it back. So Elisha threw a stick into the river and the axe head floated.

Hazael

836 BCE

He was a king of Syria after murdering Ben-Hadad the previous king. Ben-Hadad was already sick so he took advantage and killed him. He was a commander before he was king.

Athaliah

Period: 836 BCE to 829 BCE

Athaliah was a terrible queen of Judah. She took over after Ahaziah died. She reigned 7 years until Joash was anointed king. She killed everyone in the royal household. Joash was a young boy and he was anointed king while being guarded by soldiers so Athaliah would not kill him.

Jehu

Period: 835 BCE to 807 BCE

Jehu was the king of Israel. He reigned for 28 years. He is the best king that Israel has but he was not necessarily a good king. He killed all of Ahab's dependents including Jezebel. He also got rid of all Baal worship by deceiving the prophets of Baal. He is a picture of Jesus in three ways. The meaning of his name, the actions he carried out, and the decision time he brings. But he still worshipped the golden calves so he was a mid king.

Joash

Period: 829 BCE to 789 BCE

Joash was 7 years old when he started to reign. He reigned in Judah for 40 years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord all his days because Jehoash instructed him. He repaired the temple for the Lord but he worshipped idols at the end of his life. He was killed by his servants.

Jehoahaz

Period: 807 BCE to 790 BCE

He was a king of Israel. He reined for 17 years and he was a bad king. He worshipped idols and was not good in God's eye. But he cried out to God and asked him to help Israel win against the Syrians. And God let them escape but still did not wordship God. Then they continued to lose to the Syrians.

Jehoash

Period: 790 BCE to 774 BCE

He was a king of Israel. He reigned for 16 years in Samaria. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He reins at the same time as Joash king of Judah. He fought against Amaziah king of Judah. He asks Elisha for help to win the war he was in. Elisha shows how many battles he will win with the arrows that Jehoash threw on the ground.

Joash kills Zechariah

789 BCE

Zechariah was Joash's first cousin and like his adopted brother. God sent him to tell Joash to stop worshiping idols and to turn back to God. But instead he had him stoned in the temple before everyone. Then his servants killed Joash because of what he did to Zechariah.

Amaziah

Period: 789 BCE to 760 BCE

He was the king of Judah and he reigned for 29 years in Jerusalem. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord yet not with his whole heart. Amaziah was the son of Joash the king of Judah. Amaziah wanted Israel to help them win the battle against Ephraimites. But a man of God tells him that they are not supposed to fight them with Israel because the people of Israel were bad. But he still wins the battle somehow. And then he started worshipping the idols that he took from the Ephraimites.

Jeroboam II

Period: 774 BCE to 733 BCE

He was a king of Israel and reigned for 41 years. He was an evil king. He took back some of the kingdom because God had mercy on the people.

Uzziah

Period: 760 BCE to 708 BCE

He was a king of Judah. He reigned for 52 years. He was sixteen years old, and made king instead of his father Amaziah. He was a good king. God helped him win against the Philistines, Arabians, and the Meunites. He had a very big and prosperous army. And he built up the kingdom of Judah. He become pride at the end of his reign. He tried to burn incense to the Lord in the temple but that was the priests job. So God punished him with Leprosy on his forehead b/c he was mad.

Zechariah

733 BCE

He reigned in Israel for six months. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He was killed by Shallum.

Shallum

732 BCE

He reigned for one month in Israel. He was killed by Menahem. He was a bad king.

Menahem

Period: 732 BCE to 722 BCE

He reigned in Israel for 10 years. He was a bad king. The king of Assyria came up against him and Menahem bribed him to stay in power. Menahem rips open women and took their babies to scare the people.

Isaiah

Period: 730 BCE to 589 BCE

He was a prophet of Hezekiah. He was killed by Manasseh by getting cut in half.

Pekahiah

Period: 722 BCE to 720 BCE

He was a king of Israel and reigned for two years. he did what was evil. Pekah, his captain, and fifty men killed him.

Pekah

Period: 720 BCE to 700 BCE

He was the king of Israel and he reigned for 20 years. He was a bad king. Hoshea killed him. The king of Assyria captured a bunch of land.

Jotham

Period: 708 BCE to 692 BCE

He was a good king of Judah. He reigned after his father Uzziah for 16 years in Jerusalem. He was the only king where no bad thing was said about him in the Bible. He built up the kingdom and the tribe of Israel. He never went into the temple because his father got leprosy from burning incense in the temple. So he stayed away from it.

Hoshea

Period: 700 BCE to 691 BCE

He was the king of Israel and he reigned for 9 years. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. Assyria conquers Israel during his reign. The king of Assyria puts him in prison.

Ahaz

Period: 692 BCE to 675 BCE

He reigned for 16 years as a king of Judah. He was a bad king. Israel took their captives to Damascus. But then they decided to give the captives back with clothes and food. The Edomites attacked Judah. His biggest sin was sacrificing his sons to idols. His punishment was to lose battles against Israel, Assyria, and Syria. He moves the altar of God to the side of his house so he could use the altar for witchcraft and worshipping idols.

Hezekiah

Period: 675 BCE to 644 BCE

Hezekiah was a good king of Judah. He reigned for 29 years. He did what was good in the sight of the Lord.

Hezekiah's Passover

670 BCE

Hezekiah had a giant Passover after the Passover time because he had just rebuilt Judah. He redid the temple and destroyed all idols and idol worship. He made Judah a place to worship God again.

Hezekiah and the Assyrians

661 BCE

Hezekiah and the Assyrians went to war because the Assyrians attacked Judah. So Hezekiah payed Sannacherib to not attack Judah. Eventually Sannacherib got killed by his own sons.

Hezekiah gets sick

661 BCE

Hezekiah becomes sick and is told that he was going to die. But Hezekiah changed God's mind by praying and crying out to God. And God adds an additional 15 years to his life.

Hezekiah and Babylon

650 BCE

The Babylonians came to visit Hezekiah. Hezekiah showed them all of his kingdom including the temple. But God was not pleased that he showed off to them so he told a prophet to tell Hezekiah that his sons would be punished. His sons and Judah would be given over to the Babylonians as punishment. And Hezekiah didn't care that much because he was not affected.

Manasseh

Period: 644 BCE to 589 BCE

Manasseh was the worst king of Judah. He was even worse than all the king of Israel. He reigned for 55 years. He did human sacrifice and set up idols even in the temple of God. He worshiped any idols he could find. He started reigning when he was only 12 years old. He also was into witchcraft and sexual immorality. Yet he humbled himself when he got captured and tortured by the Assyrians. God heard him and restored his kingdom and let him go home. Then the rest of his life he lived for God.

Amon

Period: 589 BCE to 587 BCE

Amon was a bad king of Judah. He reigned for 2 years. He worshiped idols and followed the way of his father. He died because he was killed by his servants.

Josiah

Period: 587 BCE to 556 BCE

Josiah was eight when he began to reign in Judah. he reigned for 31 years. He was a good king. Hilkiah found the book of the law and he gave it to Shaphan and he gave it to the king. Huldah prophecy's that God will punish and destroy Judah because of Manasseh and his sins. But Josiah would be spared from the destruction. Josiah reads all the books of the Bible to the people when he heard the prophecy. Josiah also restored the Passover and made it more grand than every other Passover since Samuel

Josiah purging Judah

575 BCE

He started purging Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the Asherah, and the carve and the metal images. And then they started chopping down the altars of Baal. He made it bust and put it on sacrifices.

Josiah repairs the Temple

569 BCE

In the eighteenth year of his reign, Josiah collected money from the temple and gave it to the people who worked for him.

Josiah dies in battle

556 BCE

He died in battle by an arrow. And his servants buried him in a tomb. The Pharaoh of Egypt killed Josiah when he went to meet him and the Assyrian king.

Jehoahaz

556 BCE

He was a king of Judah. He reigned for only three months. The Pharaoh of Egypt deposed of him and took him off the throne because of his father's war with him.

Jehoiakim

Period: 555 BCE to 544 BCE

He was a bad king of Judah. His original name was Eliakim. He reigned for 11 years. Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated him and took stuff from Judah.

Jehoiachin

544 BCE

He reigned for 3 months and 10 days in Judah. He was a bad king. Nebuchadnezzar also took him captive and took more possessions. And destroys Solomon's temple.

Zedekiah

Period: 544 BCE to 533 BCE

He was bad a king of Judah. He reigned for 11 years. He rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar and Babylon decides to burn the city and kill almost everyone. They take the rest of the people as captives.

Gedaliah

533 BCE

He was a governor of Judah and he listened to everything that Babylon told him too. So the servants rebelled against him and killed him. He only ruled for 7 months. And then Babylon completely destroys Judah and there is nothing left.
