The Sighet Ghettos
Two ghettos are formed in Sighet, one (where Elie lived) is in the center of Sighet and the other is on the outskirts of Sighet. -
Deportation of Jews from Sighet
Elie and his familiy are put into a cattle car and sent to Buna. -
D-Day
One of the most symbolic events in WW2, D-Day, The invasion of Normandy. After making landfall on the beaches, the Allies used this position as a springboard for more forces to help liberate Paris. -
Warsaw Uprising
As the Soviets approach Warsaw, Polish resistance army troops attack SS forces in Warsaw in an attempt to push the Nazis out. The uprising resulted in over 200,000 dead. -
Liberation of France
Assisted by French resistance forces, the Allies push Germany and Italy out of France. -
Elie is transferred to a different Kommando
Elie is moved to the construction Kommando, and separated from his father's Kommando, but still see's his father. -
Elie's foot becomes infected
Elie's foot begins to swell, and the doctor operates on it to remove the infection. -

As the USSR nears Buna, it's prisoners are evacuated -
Liberation of Poland
Poland is liberated by The USSR and remaining Axis forces surrender. -
Elie arrives in Gleiwitz
Elie and his father arrive in Gleiwitz after the death march. -
Gleiwitz is evacuated
Elie leave Gleiwitz in a cattle car with his father and about 98 other people. -
Elie arrives in Buchenwald
Elie and 11 others, including his father, arrive in Buchenwald in a Cattle car. -
Elie's father dies
Elie's father is beaten to death by an SS officer -
Buchenwald is liberated
The resistance triumphs over the SS and liberates Buchenwald. -
Hitler commits suicide
Hitler, and his wife Eva commited suicide in their bunker. -
Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Japan continues to attack the Allies and violates the Potsdam terms. The US bombs Hiroshima and Nagasaki, this is the only time that Nuclear Weaponry has been used in a wartime situation. -
