the main issue was whether new states would be admitted as free or slave states. the north and south were impacted diffrently because it effected the balance of power in congress. missouri compermise increased tension in the u.s. between the south and north. -

the comprimise of 1850 is when california was addmited as a free state and texas borders were settled and confirmed. and the states around texas getting reconized as territories of new mexico and utah. -

the fugitive slave act was an act where if slaves esscaped int norther states the slave owners could go find them and take them back where they would be punished. -
uncle toms cabin
uncle toms cabin is a book that was wrote by a white woman from the north but in the eyes of a slave which was the first of it kind at the time. it soon became a really fast selling book and the best of its time the presses could barely keep up soon after it became a play so even people who couldnt read were hearing this amazing story. this story also created a divide in america with the north loving it and the south banning it and burning it. -
kansas-nebraska act
it created two new states to join the popular sovernty. kansas and Nebraska were the two states involved in this act. -
Bleeding kansas and the pottawatomie masucure
the killings of potttawatomie creek marked the beging of bleeding kansas. as both sides embarked on campaign of teror and killing and massacure as they support there sides. -
Dred Scott decision
states/ territories decided that denied the legality of black citezenship in america and declared the missouri compermise as unconstitutional -
john brown raid and trial.
john brown stood trial for treason against the commonwealth of virginia for murder and for conspiring with slaves to rebel.
