    America's Discovery
    This is when Columbus sailed to find America and settled there.
    Significance: Was the first interaction Europeans had with Native Americans, which started the ball rolling for the rest of these events!

  • Colonial Era

    Colonial Era
    When various cultures and religions tried to claim America by settling there and attempting to convert the Natives to their theologies. This occurred from the 1600s to the 1700s.
    Significance: The Natives lost a lot of their land during the expansion of other's thoughts and beliefs. Some of these tribes also had to relocate unfortunately.
    Key Figures: Not to many specific people, however groups such as Christians, Catholics, and politicians all tried to get a piece of the cake.

    Indian Removal Act
    This is when the current president of 1830, wanted to force the native Americans out of their lands, in the east, to the west. This is the main factors that led to the infamous trail of tears.
    Significance: This was one of the main specific events that started Indian segregation and discrimination towards them. This is an important part of history, because it shows how inhumane America was to these Indian tribes.

  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    The Trail of Tears was the event that got approved by Andrew Jackson that instituted Indians to be forced out of their homes to travel westward into "Indian Territory." This event took place from 1831-1850. Significance: This was one of the main specific events that started Indian segregation and discrimination towards them. This is an important part of history, because it shows how inhumane America was to these Indian tribes.

  • Boarding School Influences

    Boarding School Influences
    The government used these schools to force native Americans into learning English only, Christianity, and to not practice their old cultural practices anymore. This was a way to reform them back into American society.
    Significance: This forced natives to convert to American society, which caused a long-term effect on their culture.

  • Dawes Act

    Dawes Act
    This enabled the president to be able to split up American tribes into individual subplots. This causes them to lose land, farming plots, and also initiates cultural disputes.
    Significance: They attempted to make the Native Americans farm like White homesteaders.

    Indian Citizenship Act
    This allowed native Americans to have citizenship in the United States if they were born within territorial limits.
  • Termination Policy

    Termination Policy
    When the government wanted to issue an act saying that native American affairs shouldn't metal with the government, and that there should be no relationship there.
  • Indian Civil Right's Act

    Indian Civil Right's Act
    An act that instituted that native Americans have the right to freedom of speech and right to trial by jury. This extended protection over their specific rights within the Bill of Rights
