  • Minamata disaster

    The Minamata Disease, was a widespread mercury poisoning event discovered in 1956, it was caused by the consumption of seafood contaminated by industrial waste in Minamata, Japan. Afterward researchers tracked the methylmercury level in the water to a chemical plant, researchers soon identified it as the source of the toxins being released into local water sources.
  • Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" Published

    Richard Carson’s research led to discussions and new policies that will save our atmosphere and ecosystems. Her book helped promote a change in basic assumptions in how this world’s chemists practiced discipline to establish a new rule for the chemistry community to the impact of humans on the Earth.
  • Stockholm Conference

    The Stockholm Conference was a conference about the economy and how nations are expanding. The downplay for the conference lies in a 1968 proposal from Sweden that the UN should hold a international conference to examine the impacts of the environment and identify the problems. They reviewed 26 principles concerning the environment.
  • Endangered Species Act

    This Act was signed into law on Dec. 28, 1973, to protect various species from going into extinction. 99% of the species are still alive today and are recovering slowly. The only downside of this is that there is a crisis between food management, many people throw away a ton of food every day, restaurants are the big culprits, and then we have the plastics and chemicals that interact with the DNA of living organisms.
  • Love Canal

    Love Canal, a beautiful neighborhood in Niagara Falls, NY, U.S. It was an abandoned canal that became a dump for 22,000 tons of chemical waste. The wastes include polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), Dioxin, and pesticides. There was heavy damage to the chromosomes of the people who lived there, and 1,300 residents agreed to a $20,000,000 settlement later.
  • Bhopal Disaster

    December 3rd, 1984, an insecticide plant released about 45 tons of methyl isocyanate. The company was owned by Indian subsidiary of the American firm, Union Carbide Corporation. It killed thousands of people immediately; it created chaos of tens of thousands of people immediately and creating more panic. They suffered from respiratory problems, eye irritation or blindness + maladies.

He showed them the possible dangers if we continue burning more nonrenewable resources.
