    The cause of Yosemite National Park falling under federal control was an act in 1864 that granted California the park for protection. Then in 1906, Yosemite was transferred back to federal control. Unfortunately not all effects are positive ones, the effect of Yosemite falling back under federal control resulted in more chaos and illegal activity taking place in the park.

    TR the Rough Rider at San Juan Hill

    The Rough Riders were volunteer cavalry regiment that completed a decisive charge up San Juan Hill, TR led this group. The cause of this charge was the Spanish-American war plans that had charging up the hill as a large part of America's plan. The effect was boosting TR's career and painting him as a national hero.

    He was appointed president after the assassination of President McKinley. His presidency is significant because he is the youngest president to ever be appointed in the office.

    Coal Strike

    The Coal strike of 1902 was a strike by the United Mine Workers of America in the anthracite coalfields of East PA. Miners wanted higher wages, shorter workdays, and their union to be recognized. The workers threatened to shut down the winter coal supply. The cause of this strike was mine workers, a dangerous profession, not getting paid enough, working much too long, and not getting recognized as a union. The effect was a 10% wage increase, and only a nine hour workday. This boosted TD as well.

    The National Reclamation Act was a U.S law that allowed the federal government to use money from public land sales in western states to fund dams, reservoirs, and canals for irrigation projects. The Act was caused by the dry climate of the west. The effect was causing the dry lands of the west to become more green and fertile.

    Elkins Act Passed

    The Elkins Act was a law that amended the Interstate Commerce act years prior. The Act made it illegal for railroads to offer rebates to high volume shippers. In other words, it expanded the power of the federal government and had the U.S become a more regulatory state regulating trade. The cause of the Elkins Act was railroad companies getting upset over being extorted by the railroad trusts. The Elkins Act set a precedent for government intervention when it comes to businesses and practices.

    This court case was an antitrust lawsuit against the Northern Securities Company, which was a railroad company created by J.P. Morgan to finish the railroads prior. The cause of the case was TR believing that the company was violating the Sherman Antitrust Act. The effect of the case was positive for TR as it added to his reputation as a trust buster and it upheld the government right to break up monopolies.

    TR Wins first full term as President

    After being appointed in his prior terms, he ran for reelection (in a way) in 1904 and came out on top with a landslide of a victory. The cause of his election was because of his large popularity levels. The effect of his election was cementing and officially launching his "Square Deal" which was a progressive reform that lead to many positive reforms.

    The Act was passed because of public outcry due to Sinclair's novel: "The Jungle" which exposed the meat packing industry. The effect of the Passage of Pure Food and Drug act was the creation of the FDA, which is still around today.

    Meat Inspection Act

    The Meat Inspection Act prohibited the sale of adulterated or misbranded lifestock. They ensured that the lifestock was slaughtered and processed under sanitary conditions. This Act got the UDSA involved with meat selling, processing, and packing. The cause of the Meat Inspection Act was public outcry about the unsanitary practices at meatpacking plants. There was also a report published called "The Jungle" that explained soldiers getting rotten meat. Effects included food safety in meat.

    TR Leaves His Presidency and Goes on a safari in Africa because of multiple reasons. One reason was wanting to get out of his successor's way, another was to collect exotic specimens for his museum, the Smithsonian. TR's primary reason for going to Africa was to hunt and explore new wildlife and environments. Effects of TR's venture to Africa was having a very large and exotic collection for the museum which made huge contributions to science.

    TR Runs for presidency in Bull-Moose Party

    Also known as the progressive party, TR ran for president under the Bull-Moose party, TR's third party competition created a split in the republican votes. This allowed a democrat, Woodrow Wilson, to win the presidency.
