The Battle of Cambrai happened in 1917. It took place in Northern France. Germany and United Kingdom was associated in this battle. This battle marketed the first-large scale tanks in warfare. The tanks were used int the Flanders Swamp. -

The British tanks ripped through German defenses and took some 7,500 prisoners at low cost in casualties. Bad weather intervened. By November 29 the offensive had been halted after an advance of about 6 miles (10 km). November 30th, German Second Army Launched a counterstroke with 20 divisions against the flanks of the salient created by the British advance. -
The end of the Battle of Cambrai
The battle ended on December 6th. Both sides exhausted from fighting. More than 80,000 soldiers on bother sides were injured, missing, or killed. Many lives were lost during this battle. -
Lloyd Brown
Lloyd Brown enlisted into the World War with many other young men. He joined in 1918. He was 16 at the time, but lied and said he was 18. He was sent to Great Lakes stationed in Illinois. -
Life on a ship
Lloyd lived on a ship. They slept in hammocks that hung from the ceiling of the boat. In the mornings, they folded up the hammocks and brought the table down from the ceiling. They would then eat breakfast. -
Coal Ship
The ship he was on was a coal ship. The coal was shoved down a manhole. The coal would go down into the engines. The ship would get dirty and the soldiers would clean the deck. -
English Channel
Lloyd traveled back and forth across the Atlantic Ocean defending the English Channel. They then picked up the German ship and brought it into the States. They captured it in Philadelphia and tied it up to the docks. People would visit the ship. -
Reenlistment
He then reenlisted in 1918 and was sent to Roads, Virginia. Lloyd applied for musician school that was in Norfolk, Virginia. He learned to play the saxophone. He was there for about a year.
