  • America prepares for Battle of Midway

    The U.S. prepares for the Battle of Midway by grouping all of their ships together. They knew to do this ahead of time due to them breaking the Japanese code. (Without the U.S. breaking Japanese code, it's likely the U.S. might have lost the Battle of Midway.)
  • First military engagement in Battle of Midway

    U.S. mistakenly fly's a group of B-17 Flying Fortress bombers to attack what they thought was the main Japanese fleet but was actually the Kondo's invasion force. This unsuccessful attack marks the first military engagement in the Battle of Midway.
  • First phase Japanese attack

    Japan sent 108 warplanes from four aircraft carriers to strike Midway inflicting severe damage to the U.S base. The attack ended at 7:00 a.m. but left the airfield useable and the U.S. anti-aircraft defenses were still functioning.

    Shortly after the first Japanese attack U.S. aircraft launched from midway and began to attack Japan's four carriers.
