    Plessy v Ferguson
    The supreme court had upheld all racial segregation leading the "separate but equal." This was the start of segregation for schools, public faculty's, which lead less opportunity's for Black students.

    Brown v. Board was when the Supreme Court ruled to end segregation in public schools. This was the end of “separate but equal” for schools. This had violated the 14th amendments and was unconstitutional, this is why they ended segregation for public schools.
  • Bus Boycotts

    The bus boycotts were a way of protests, for the segregation laws on buses. These laws were unconstitutional. The participants would refuse to ride buses in protest, these were a nonviolent way of protests.
  • Little Rock Nine

    This was a groups of nine girls who enrolled in to an all white school in Arkansas called, Little Rock. These group of very young girls faced danger at very young ages to battle the civil rights. These girls were the first ever African American student to enter Little Rock Central Highschool with the youngest being 14 years old.

    This was the very first federal civil rights passed sing the civil rights act of 1857, this was signs by Dwight D. Eisenhower. This had increased the number of registered black voters by protecting their rights to vote in southern states.

    This was a sit in done by 4 men who planned a sit in, there would be student the sit at a white-only lunch counter and sat there as many people harassed and assaulted them for not leaving this lunch counter. They sat and did not fight back as a way to show non violence which they had to practice before hand as the things they were about to go through were extremely difficult to with stand. They sat here till the store closed. They were also arrest for trespassing

    This was the start of many freedom rides as they would protest by, riding many black Americans and white Americans through segregated southern states. These rides lead for a very long period of time. They protested for the right of unsegregated buses.

    Thousands of African Americans children that march to protest through Birmingham Alabama. As they marched peacefully they faced brutal police violence and lease to a nation outrage that later lead to the civil rights act of 1964

    This was the famous march where Martin Luther king jr had his famous “I have a dream” speech. This was the largest gathering during civil rights of this time with estimated 250,000 people attending this march for freedom through all there needs.

    A voter registration drive in Mississippi, this aimed to increase black voters registrations. This summer increased the awareness of voting rights and passage of civil right legislation.

    This was a group a Black Americans in Oakland California, started by a group of students from merit college. It was a group for Black nationalism, socialism, they learned self defense against police brutality which became controversial as Martin Luther King Jrs ideology was to nonviolent protest as this party had an opposite approach.

    Virginia had laws that prohibited marriage between different races. Richard and Mildred Lobing were a white man and Black woman that been married in the district of Columbia but in Virginia there marriage was illegal. they ruled against this law to allow interracial marriage.
