    First Woman to fly across the Atlantic
    Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean landing in Ireland traveling over 2,000 miles in just 15 hours she was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by the U.S Congress. Later on in 1937 she had attempted to fly around the world with her copilot Frederick J. Noonan but her plane disappeared near Howland Island (July 2, 1937)

Several of the British universities in the 1960s launched solar expeditions but never saw the Noch Ness "Monster" but sonar operators detected a large moving underwater object.

    Revolutionary figure who came to be known as "Soul brother #1" and many other names came to the world of music. Sentenced for 16 yrs at the age of 15 for stealing from parked cars he used that time in prison to dedicate himself to music and was released only after 3 yrs when they saw how serious he was about music. Before prison he would sing and dance in front of his Aunt's business to attract customers he would find music on the streets.

    First Drive-in Movie Theater
    Richard Hollingshead first came up with the idea when his mother struggled to sit comfortably in a movie theater putting a screen on some trees testing it in his driveway and ways to protect it from the rain. He received a patent in May of 1933 then opened it in June charging 25 cents per car. The idea quickly caught on and more drive-in theaters popped up around the world.

    First Dymaxion Car produced
    First Dymaxion three wheeled car produced by Buckminster Fuller, it was part aircraft part automobile able to reach the speed of 120 mph and an average of 28 miles per gallon but it was never massed produced. In October of 1933 Dymaxion was blamed for the death of professional driver Francis Turner when the car turned over in a demonstration although it did lead to public acceptance of new streamlined passenger cars, such as the 1936 Lincoln Zephyr.

    Massive dust storm swept away the crops from the farmland from the northern Great Plains to the eastern seaboard in the month of may it was the most severe storm yet winds carrying dust from over-plowed and over-grazed lands. It forced thousands of families to move away to California.

    Indian Reorganization Act (IRA) allowed the Native Americans to have control over their lands and be able to form legally recognized tribal governments. More importantly the IRA reversed the allotment policy that was in effect from 1887-1934. They were able to purchase their land back. IRA was signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt

    Ella was a dancer who found herself on stage by chance instead of dancing she decided to sing. She had said in an interview that it was only a bet when she put her name in along with her friends never thinking that she could be called onto the stage. Once she sang on stage it would change the course of her life becoming a musical legend.

    "Shirley Temple receives the first-ever kid-sized, "juvenile" Oscar. The trophy measured roughly half the height of a full-sized Oscar." During the time of her fame it offered a sense of wholesome and hope during the times of the Great Depression. After 20 yrs or so she retired from Hollywood she released a political campaign running for a congressional seat in San Mateo, California, in 1967.

    Jesse Owens wins Long Jump and respect in Germany
    Jesse Owens wins an Olympic gold medal in the long jump in the Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. He set three world records. Jesse Owens and Metcalfe had replaced two American Jews that were supposed to run that day because the U.S thought it would make Hitler even more angry and for that they were criticized.
  • "Of Mice and Men" is published

    "Of Mice and Men" is published
    John Steinbeck's novella of Mice and Men is a story of a bond between two migrant workers and also adapted the book into a three-act play produced in the same year. The first two novels were not a huge success when he first started, but his third novel became a huge success Tortilla Flat as well as Dubious Battle. Mice and Men and Dubious Battle talked about the injustices of various types such as discrimination against migrant workers.

    Disney releases "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"
    Walt Disney decision to make Snow White was the first animated feature with technicolor although many said that he should not produce it including his wife he bet everything into the film and premiered it in December 21,1937 and it grossed into $8 million. It was a lot during the Great Depression. Disney had won an honorary Academy Award.

    A number of events happened in the year of 1939 as the Depression era ended World War II began and Germany invaded Poland in response to Germany invading Poland France and Great Britain declared war on Germany. Hitler had become insatiable he wanted more than what he had already had. U.S was still neutral with the whole situation regarding Germany.

    Germany bombed Paris killing 254 people most of them of which were civilians. World War II had already begun and the death of many people was happening all around. Germany was determined to wreck France's economy and military, reducing it's population. It did not matter that there were civilians in the mist of it all even schoolchildren.
