  • Learning to Trust

    Learning to Trust

As a baby, Jordan's parents consistently respond to her cries, feeding and comforting her quickly. This stage focuses on whether a child learns the world is safe and reliable. When caregivers are dependable, the infant develops trust; if they are inconsistent or neglectful, the infant develops mistrust and feels insecure or anxious about others' reliability.
  • Initiative v. Guilt

    Initiative v. Guilt

On her first day of highschool, Jordan helped set up for a classroom party, showing initiative in exploring new roles and interactions. This stage is about learning to take initiative and act with purpose. When they are encouraged, children develop initiative and confidence in decision-making. If overly controlled or criticized, they could develop guilt about asserting themselves or making mistakes.
  • Intimacy v. Isolation

    Intimacy v. Isolation

After college, at around 21/22 years old Jordan moved to a new city and started a relationship that required lots of vulnerability and emotional openness. She wants to be with this person, but the vulnerability part scares her. In this stage, young adults seek intimacy and form close, committed relationships. Success leads to deep connection and love, failure or fear of vulnerability leads to isolation and loneliness.
