She was the fourth Prime Minister of Israel between March 1969 and June 1974. Prior to that, she served as Minister of Labor (1949-1956) and Foreign Minister (1956-1966). As prime minister, he led Israel during the War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War. Golda Meir is the first and only woman to serve as prime minister in Israel. -

Yom kippur war
On October 5, 1973, Meir received official news that Syrian forces were massing on the Golan Heights. The fighting mostly took place in the Sinai and the Golan Heights, territories that had been occupied by Israel since the end of the Six-Day War of 1967. Egyptian President Anwar Sadat also wanted to reopen the Suez Canal. Neither specifically planned to destroy Israel, although the Israeli leaders could not be sure of that. -
