Magellan starts his voyage with a fleet of 5 ships leaving spain. They sailed across the Atlantic ocean. They sailed around the world to prove the earth is round. his voyage took nearly 3 years. -

British First Permanent Settlement in Australia
11 British ships carrying 1,023 people traveling from Portsmouth in the United Kingdom arrived in Warrane (now Sydney Cove).
Arthur Phillip put up a British flag at the site.
One reason the British did this was to establish a base in the Pacific to counter French expansion. -
