Manhattan Project

Battle of the Coral Sea
American along with Australian forces fight off Japanese shoulders who try to actively try Australia. This marks the first Japanese attack that has been stopped. This battle ended on May 8, 1942. -
Battle of Midway
US begins island hopping, getting closer to attacking mainland Japan due to Admiral Chester Nimitz intercepting a message, giving him knowledge prior to Japans attack. This battle ended on the 7th. -
Battle of Guadalcanal
US attacks Japan's Solomon Islands. Although winning against Japan for the first time, the US lost 1/3 of its 19,000 marines (6,5000 men). This battle ended on February 9th of the next year. -
Battle of Okinawa
Okinawa was Japan;s last defensive outpost to mainland Japan. This battle consisted of over 1,900 kamikaze attacks, making this a difficult fight for the U.S. Even with these dangerous circumstances, the US still took Okinawa on June 7, 1945, marking this the Bloodiest battle with over 100,000 casualties. This battle ended on June 22. -

The night of Germany's unconditional surrender, FDR passed away after serving three terms. -
Bombings of Hiroshima
Enola Gay (B-29 bomber sent by the US) on August 6, 1945 dropped a bomb over Hiroshima which killed over 100,000 people as well as devastated the areas architecture surrounding it. -
Bombing of Nagasaki
3 days after a bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the region of Nagasaki was also bombed which killed over 70,000 people. -
U.S Victory over Japan (Japans surrender)
After 2 devastating bombs were dropped on Japan, Japans leader Emperor Hirohito ordered papers for Japans formal surrender to the U.S, therefore ending the war.
