King Henry was born in 1491 in Greenwich Palace. He gained many titles in childhood, though was not expected to be king. Surprisingly, he was not obese until much later in life. He had three siblings that survived infancy. Originally, his brother Arthur was intended to take the throne. Arthur was married to Catherine of Aragon at the age of 15; however, he died shortly after. Henry was a replacement.

King Henry VIII Declared that he was the one and only ruler of the Church of England. There were two main reasons he did this:
1.) He wanted to divorce Catherine of Aragon, but the Pope would not pass the divorce. Under his own church, he could divorce as he wished. 2.) Stemming from the first, he realized the Pope had too much power, and wanted to mitigate this. -
