The Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were victims of an attempted bombing, they were later shot and killed by a Bosnian student/member of the Serbian Society, "Black Hand". This caused conflict between Austria and Serbia, which soon expands with other countries joining such as the U.S. due to commotion involving allies and unjust situations. -
A World War is Declared.
Germany declares war on Russia and France. Following this, Great Britain decides to declare on Germany. That declaration included all British Empire which includes, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, and South Africa. As large war approaches, the U.S. decide they do not want to be involved and they declare neutrality. -
The Sinking of the Lusitania Ship
A Germany U-Boat goes into the Lusitania, the British passenger boat just off of the Irish Coast sinks within 18 minutes, this boat drowned 1,201 people which included 128 Americans. This has President Woodrow deciding to send multiple protests to Germany. This situation put the U.S. in a bad spot as they were not upset with Germany for taking out some of their U.S. citizens. -
The Re-election of President Woodrow
As the U.S. citizens are very happy and pleased with the fact that we have not gone into the war and we have stayed neutral due to the actions of President Woodrow, when time comes for the re-election, they decide that he should be re-elected for the good deeds he had done to protect the country, which may send them into the wrong part of war. What starts well doesn't always end well. -
German Telegram Interception
German Foreign Minister Arthur Zimmerman sent a telegram to Mexico City in attempt to for an alliance with them against the United States. Germany offered them benefits as well hoping that they would agree. However, the British found out about the telegram and they decrypted it to find out what was happening, the telegram soon became public and caused extreme conflict and panic from interventionists in the U.S. -
The United States Declares War
The United States have been careful and aware to stay neutral and avoid going into the war. However, after avoiding it for a long time, they had enough and many reasons to go against Germany. The Zimmerman telegram, the sinking of the Lusitania, the German invasion on Belgium, repeated submarine attacks and attacks on merchant ships. Those events caused the U.S. to slowly become impatient and eventually declare war on Germany. -
American Troops Arrive To France
American troops, of around 14,000 American Soldiers start to arrive in France at the port of St. Nazaire. This arrival had been kept quiet to avoid German intervention. The arrival of the American troops will soon cause more war to outbreak as more people begin to fight. -
The Sedition Act
Congress decided to pass the sedition act. This act covered offenses, it forbade people from speaking profanely or abusively about the war effort in a negative way, or if they interfered with the sale of government bond. This stopped people from publishing false information or posting scandalous information about the war or our government. It was made to extend the Espionage act of 1917. -
Armistice is Agreed on
The Armistice was signed by the Allies and Germany was officially out into effect on the 11th of November, 1918 at 11 am. while this did not officially end the war, it was made as a temporary agreement for hostilities to end and it was a prelude and start for all of the peace negotiations that would later happen. -
The End of World War 1
The World War was officially ended after 4 years of battle as the Treaty of Versailles is signed. A German delegation signs the treaty in the Palace of Versailles which is located in France as a way to formally end the war. The Treaty of Versailles consisted of 230 pages which contained had only little of President Woodrow Wilsons Fourteen Points, this was as hoped by the Germans. Germany soon after received much harsh treatment as they seemed to have been the blame for the war.
