The Boston tea party was an act of protest against Britain, where the American colonies threw 304 cases of tea into the Boston harbor as an act of rebellion against the taxes the king imposed on the colonies without their permission.

The battles of Lexington and Concord, fought on April 19, 1775. These battles are often called ‘the shot heard around the world’ they were the first engagements between the colonists and the British. The British were attempting to take military supplies from the Americans in Lexington which resulted in casualties on both sides. The British moved on to Concord where they were met with more resistance and eventually retreated back to Boston.

On July 4th, 1776 the continental congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and in August 2nd of the same year delegates began signing it in the Pensilvania state house, later renamed independence hall, in Philadelphia.

The winter at valley forge took place from 1777 to 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. The militia faced severe hardships due to the freezing weather and snow making it hard to get supplies to the camp. They had disease spreading through the camp, and many of them were starving but they persevered under Washington’s leadership.

The battle of Yorktown, commonly called the siege of Yorktown, was a combined siege from American and French troops that lasted from September 28 to October 19, 1781. The siege was led by General Cornwallis and resulted in the British troops surrendering, cementing Americas independence.

The articles of confederation was the first constitution of the United States, they were ratified on March 1 1781.

On June 21, 1788 the constitution was ratified after New Hampshire became the ninth state to ratify it.
The constitution needed at least 9 of 13 states for it to be official, many people were unsure of ratifying it because they thought it would give too much power to the new national government. -
George Washington’s first inauguration happened on April 30th 1789, Washington was sworn in as the first president on the balcony of Federal hall.

Washington wrote his farewell address towards the end of his second term, he wrote it as a guideline of sorts for future generations before retiring to his home in Virginia.

Former first president George Washington died in his home in Mount Vernon on December 14, 1799. His death was unexpected and many said in the days just before he was managing affairs at his property seemingly fine.

This election is significant because the two candidates Thomas Jefferson who was representing the Democratic-republican party, and John Addams who was representing the Federalist Party. This was the second peaceful transfer of presidential power in U.S history.
