The Nation of Islam was founded by Wallace Fard Muhammad in Detroit, Michigan. Their main goal was basically just promoting social justice and spiritual awareness for Black Americans. -
Elijah Muhammad took over as leader of the Nation of Islam after Wallace Fard Muhammad kinda mysteriously disappeared. This helped to spread the Nation's influence. -
With the leadership of Elijah Muhammad, the Nation of Islam expanded rapidly in the 1940s, with its spread across the entire United States of America and having more real presence. -
Elijah Muhammad worked out the ideology of the Nation, educating people that African Americans were the actual people and that their true history was lost when they were being enslaved. -
Malcolm X went on the Hajj to Mecca, an experience that definitely affected his racial and religious philosophy and led him to actually becoming a Sunni Muslim. -
Malcolm X, one of the most famous people in the Nation, left after disagreeing with Elijah Muhammad. He then converted to Sunni Islam and was eventually assassinated actually in 1965. -
Elijah Muhammad ended up dying, so his son Warith Deen Mohammed took over and led the organization into significant reforms, like being more classical Islam. -
Warith Deen Mohammed basically led the group to orthodox Sunni Islam and renamed it the "World Community of Islam in the West". -
Louis Farrakhan who was a former leader of the Nation, basically reestablished the organization, its vision, and influence. -
The Million Man March happened in Washington DC by Louis Farrakhan to advance Black unity, empowerment, and self sufficiency. -
The Nation of Islam's newspaper "The Final Call" expanded a lot and helped to address the teachings of the Nation and social issues going on at the time. -
The Nation of Islam extended its global outreach in Africa, the Caribbean, and the UK through a bunch of programs and schools. -
The Nation of Islam helped with things like feeding people, the distribution of masks, and other resources during the pandemic to Black communities.
