Oil is First Discovered in Sudan
This discovery could possibly mean that there would be less poverty in southern Sudan and the government system could get better. However, the government, which is mainly consists of northern Sudan, coveted the money that they possibly could earn, and so forced the oil to be imported only through Northern Sudan, which is a factor that started the 2nd civil war. SPLM/A, or Sudan People's Liberty Movement/Army, is created in 1983 which is actually the rebel movement in southern Sudan in the 2nd civil war. Estimating with 210000 soldiers, they caused bloodshed for one goal: fairness and equility between southern and northern Sudan. (ppt)

The 2nd Civil War started when Nimeiri introduced the Sharia Law, which is basically a law that is strictly based on the religion you choose. Southern Sudan also wanted to get the oil back. This created another economic failure and loss of resources. (ppt) -
