The Meryton Ball
Jane meets Mr. Bingley. Mr. Darcy insults Elizabeth. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley's sisters scoff at the country people's lack of decorum. -
Jane falls ill at Netherfield
Jane is invited to visit Netherfield and have dinner with Caroline and Louisa. Mrs. Bennett insists that she travel by horseback because it looks like rain and then she will be forced to spend the night. Instead, Jane falls ill at dinner. -
Elizabeth travels by foot to Netherfield to be with Jane
Elizabeth goes to Netherfield to help Jane recover. Mr. Darcy becomes even more aware of Elizabeth Bennett's charms. He admires her for caring for her sister as well as her ability to outsmart Caroline's attacks. -
Mr. Collins arrives at Longbourn
Mr. Collins is the nephew of Mr. Bennett. Longbourn Estate is entailed upon Mr. Collins. He is the clergyman in Hunsford, at the estate of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. -
The Bennett girls travel to Meryton
Jane, Elizabeth, Kitty, Lydia and Mr. Collins meet Mr. Denny and Mr. Wickham in Merryton. They are joined by Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. Mr. Wickham tells Elizabeth a lie about being denied his rightful living after the death of Mr. Darcy's father. -
Netherfield Ball
Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth dance at the Netherfield ball. Mr. Darcy notes Mr. Bingley's regard for Jane as well as the lack of propriety by the Bennet family. -
Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth
Collins proposes to Elizabeth. She refuses, much to her mother's disappointment. Mrs. Bennett attempts to force Elizabeth to marry him by soliciting Mr. Bennett's opinion; however Mr. Bennett says that he will never see Elizabeth again if she marrys Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins leaves Longbourn for Lucas Lodge. -
Mr. Collins and Charlotte Lucas become engaged
Charlotte agrees to marry Mr. Collins in order to escape spinsterhood. She feels happy with the knowledge that she will have a comfortable home and will no longer be a burdon to her parents. -
Mr. Bingley leaves Netherfield Park
Mr. Bingley leaves Netherfield Park with an idea of returning, however Mr. Darcy, Caroline Bingley, and Louisa Hurst follow him to London and convince him to remain there for the Festive Season. While there, they convince him that Jane Bennett doesn't care for him. -
Jane goes to London
Jane goes with her aunt and uncle to their London home. Elizabeth believes that Mr. Bingley will visit her while she is in town; however Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley's sisters keep Jane's presence in town from him. -
Charlotte and Mr. Collins marry
Charlotte and Mr. Collins marry and travel to his home in Hunsford. Elizabeth promises to visit Charlotte when her father and sister visit. -
Elizabeth travels to Hunsford
Elizabeth visits Mrs. Collins at her home in Hunsford. While there, she is invited to dine at Rosings, the home of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. -
Mr. Darcy and Col. Fitzwilliam arrive at Rosings
Mr. Darcy encounters Elizabeth several times at the parsonage or at Rosings Park. He attempts to win her favor by showing her attention and taking walks with her around the grounds. -
Elizabeth refuses Mr. Darcy's proposal
Elizabeth walks with Col. Fitzwilliam and learns about Mr. Darcy's interference in Bingley life. Later, when Mr. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth , she refuses emphatically. -
Darcy writes a letter to Elizabeth
Mr. Darcy feels compelled to write a letter to Elizabeth in order to explain the reasons for his actions toward Mr. Bingley and Mr. Wickham. At first, Elizabeth is angered by the letter, but then the letter helps to clarify Mr. Wickham's situation and true character. -
Mr. Darcy leaves Rosings and Elizabeth goes to London
Mr. Darcy needs to escape Rosings in order to begin forgetting Elizabeth. Elizabeth travels to London to stay with her aunt and uncle, with whom Jane had been staying. -
Elizabeth and Jane return to Longbourn
Elizabeth and Jane return home to Longbourn, each dealing with their romantic problems. The Gardiners stay with the Bennetts before their travels. -
The militia regiment leaves Hertfordshire
Lydia goes with the Forsters to Brighton when the militia leaves Hertfordshire. Elizabeth is against Lydia's trip and appeals to her father to prevent her going but Mr. Bennett is determined that Lydia should go and expose herself and then in turn learn her place. -
Elizabeth visits Derbyshire with the Gardiners
Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner invite their niece to travel with them. While on the road they travel to Derbyshire, Mr. Darcy's home. Mrs. Gardiner wants to show Pemberley to Elizabeth. -
Lydia runs away with Wickham
Lydia is convinced that she and Mr. Wickham are going to marry, so she agrees to run away with Mr. Wickham to London. Mr. Bennett learns of her disappearance and travels to London in order to search for her. -
Mr. Darcy discovers Elizabeth at Pemberley
Mr. Darcy returns to Pemberley and discovers Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle on the estate's grounds. He is very civil to Elizabeth's relatives and asks to present his sister to Elizabeth while she is in town. -
Elizabeth meets Georgiana Darcy
Elizabeth, Mr. Gardiner and Mrs. Gardiner are called upon by Mr. Darcy, Miss Darcy, and Mr. Bingley. Miss Darcy and Elizabeth begin to bond and Elizabeth matches the attacks leveled on her by Miss Bingley. -
Elizabeth learns about Lydia's elopement
Elizabeth receives a letter about Lydia's elopement from Jane. Mr. Darcy happens upon Elizabeth right after she finishes the letter and she shares the news with him. He leaves her to go search for the couple himself, but Elizabeth doesn't know of his plans; she just thinks that he is disgusted by her family and will want nothing to do with her. -
Mr. Bennet returns to Longbourn and Darcy calls on Mr.Gardiner in London
Mr. Darcy tells Mr. Gardiner of his deal with Mr. Wickham. The two men agree to arrange the wedding in London, with Mr. Darcy assuming the expense of the event. Mr. Gardiner writes to Longbourn to inform Mr. Bennett of the arrangement. -
Lydia and Wickham are married and travel to Longbourn
Mr. and Mrs. Wickham return to Longbourn before their travels to Newcastle. Lydia flaunts her marriage in her sisters' faces and demands to take Jane's place in the family. She also slips and tells Elizabeth about Mr. Darcy's presence at the wedding. Elizabeth can't understand why Mr. Darcy would trouble himself with her family's problems so she writes a letter to her aunt for clarification. -
Mrs. Gardiner replies to Elizabeth
Mrs. Gardiner replies to Elizabeth's letter regarding Mr. Darcy and explains the events regarding Lydia's elopement and wedding. She also hints at Mr. Darcy's favor for Elizabeth. The Wickhams leave a couple of days later for Newcastle. -
Mr. Bingley returns to Netherfield Park
Mr. Bingley returns to Netherfield with Mr. Darcy. He decides to call on the Bennett family to guage his reception. -
Mr. Darcy confesses to Mr. Bingley about his interference with Jane
Mr. Darcy explains his reasoning behind his interference in Mr. Bingley's life. He tells Mr. Bingely that Jane still loves him and that she will accept his hand in marriage. -
Mr. Bingley proposes to Jane
Mr. Bingley proposes to Jane. She accepts him. Mr. Bingley writes to Mr. Darcy in London to inform him of his engagement. -
Lady Catherine visits Longbourn
Lady Catherine visits Elizabeth and demands that she tell her whether or not she is engaged to Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth refuses to be intimidated by Lady Catherine and denies spreading the rumor that they are engaged. She also refuses to promise to not become engaged later on. Lady Catherine is furious and lets Elizabeth know that she will never welcome her into the family and storms out. -
Lady Catherine visits Mr. Darcy
Lady Catherine travels to London to confront him about Elizabeth. She tells him of her conversation with Elizabeth and demands that he honor his mother's wishes and marry his cousin Anne. Mr. Darcy informs her of his love for Elizabeth and tells her that he plans to ask for Elizabeth's hand in marriage. Lady Catherine threatens to deny him if he marries Elizabeth. -
Darcy proposes to Elizabeth
Mr. Darcy returns to Netherfield Park and travels with Mr. Bingely to Longbourn. He takes a walk with Elizabeth and she thanks him for his assistance with Lydia. Mr. Darcy proposes to Elizabeth and she accepts him. -
Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth and Mr. Bingely and Jane get married.
While planning the wedding the two couples decide that they would like to share their wedding day. Mr. and Mrs. Bingley stay at Netherfield and Mr. and Mrs. Darcy travel to London.
