President James A. Garfield was assassinated in Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station, Washington, D.C. by Charles J. Guiteau. Even after being shot twice, Garfield didn’t die. Instead, he “suffered” for 79 days before he died. -
Statue of Liberty
Designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and a gift from France to the U.S., the Statue of Liberty was completed. This gift symbolizes freedom and democracy. It was in 350 pieces and shipped in 214 wooden crates to New York. -

The Spanish-American War
The Spanish-American War, which lasted around three months, resulted in U.S. control over Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. The U.S. didn’t enter the war until the USS Maine was attacked. The only thing that officially ended the war was the Treaty of Paris. -

The Boxer Rebellion was “a violent anti-foreigner and anti-Christian uprising in China”. This rebellion was led by people who were titled as the Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists. This event causes foreign influence, economic hardships, natural disasters, and much more. -

The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, made the first successful powered flight. This started the birth of modern aviation. After this, the brothers continued to improve their craft to ensure that their flights lasted longer. Two years prior, the Wright Brothers developed the “Wright Flyer III”. -

19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote in the U.S. This was one of the most major events in the women's suffrage movement. While women were still discriminated against, they had one more leg up on the latter. -

The Stock Market Crash was a financial collapse that led to the Great Depression. It occurred on what is known as “black Tuesday” wiping out billions of dollars and leading to widespread unemployment. -

The United Nations (UN) was established in the aftermath of World War II. It was made to promote “peace, security, and international cooperation”. The United Nations replaced the League of Nations after the war because of its failure. -
Atomic bombs dropped
Atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States, which led to Japan's surrender and the “official end” of World War II. “This marked the first and only time nuclear weapons have been used in war.” -
Brown v. Board of Education
The Brown v. Board of Education decision ruled that segregation in schools was unconstitutional. This ended racial segregation in U.S. schools and overturned the “separate but equal” doctrine established in Plessy v. Ferguson. This was a major victory for the Civil Rights Movement. -
John F. Kennedy
On December 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy (JFK) was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. JFK was in an open-top car with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Texas Governor John Connally, and Connally’s wife Nellie Connally. Three shots were fired at 12:30 pm, two hitting him in the head and neck, fatally wounding him. Governor Connally was also shot, however, he survived. After being taken to the Parkland Memorial Hospital, JFK was pronounced dead at 1:00 pm. -
Rwandan Genocide
The Rwandan Genocide resulted in the deaths of over 800,000 people. It was a mass slaughter of the Tutsi ethnic group by Hutu extremists in Rwanda. In 100 days, 800,000 - 1 Million people were killed, naming it one of the worst genocides in history. -
9/11 Attacks
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, the start of organized terrorist attacks began. Theses attacks were led by the extremist group al-Qaeda. "Nearly 3,000 people were killed, making it the deadliest terrorist attack in history." 19 terrorists had four attacks planned. Two for the towers, one of the Pentagon, and on that landed in a field in Pennsylvania after a passenger took over and crashed it. It's believed that it was headed for the White House or U.S. Capitol. -
Osama Bin Laden Killed
On the second of May, Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda and mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks was killed by U.S. Navy Seals. His Death marks the victory of the War on Terror. -
COVID-19 pandemic
This pandemic was cause by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. After rapidly spreading across the United States, this led to a global health crisis. It became the deadliest pandemic since the 1918 Spanish Flu. COVID killed millions of people worldwide and terrified many more. -
Russia invades Ukraine
On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A few reasons why Russia took this action was because Ukraine’s Shift Toward the West, 2014 Annexation of Crimea, and just Putin’s Justifications. Putin believed that Ukraine was run by neo-Nazis and needed to be "liberated".
